Starting September 25, Malaysians can verify their eligibility for the Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95) fuel subsidy through an online platform, announced Finance Minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan.
The verification process will be accessible via the website www.budimadani.gov.my, which is set to go live on that date.
Amir Hamzah outlined that users can check their eligibility by entering their MyKad number on the website. The subsidy process involves three straightforward steps: MyKad verification, payment, and refueling. A one-time MyKad activation is required during the first use.
Fuel pump users can verify their MyKad directly at petrol pumps or in-store at petrol stations equipped with MyKad terminals. Alternatively, eligibility checks can be conducted through selected e-wallet applications or individual petrol companies’ mobile apps.
The minister explained that the government established the 300-liter monthly subsidy cap based on data from the Department of Statistics Malaysia. “If we had set the limit at 140 liters per month, 90% of Malaysians would qualify. However, to ensure the majority benefits, we chose a threshold that covers 99% of the population,” he said.
Based on the RON95 price range of RM2.60 to RM2.75 under the Automatic Pricing Mechanism, the subsidy is expected to save Malaysians between RM183 and RM228 monthly.
