The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living recorded 1,357 offences leading to compounds worth RM157,000 during its enforcement of the Chinese New Year 2026 festive season maximum price scheme.
Enforcement head Azman Adam said the violations were uncovered through 10,672 inspections carried out nationwide over nine days starting February 13.
“This shows the government’s continued commitment to protect people’s welfare and keep living costs in check during Chinese New Year celebrations,” he said in a Harian Metro report.
“We stepped up monitoring during this period to maintain price stability and stop any irresponsible parties from manipulating prices.”
Widespread Inspections and Team Effort
Inspections targeted public markets, farmers’ markets and shopping centres, covering producers, wholesalers and retailers.
More than 2,400 enforcement officers were deployed across the country for the campaign.
Azman noted that ministry officers also collaborated with their counterparts from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to secure steady supplies of essential items such as fish and vegetables throughout the festive period.
Positive Results and Ongoing Vigilance
He attributed the smooth running of the scheme to diligent monitoring by the ministry and encouraging feedback from the public.
Azman added that the ministry will keep watching supply chains and prices closely to prevent any unjustified increases in the days ahead.
