DAP national adviser and Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng has urged the Home Ministry to act against UMNO Youth Chief Dr Akmal Saleh, saying his actions have violated the Rukun Negara and pose a serious threat to national unity, harmony, justice and the rule of law.
Lim highlighted that DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke has condemned attempts to exploit the unintentional mistake of ordinary Malaysians. DAP members in Penang pledged to defend a Malaysian Chinese-owned hardware store targeted by extremists for accidentally hanging the national flag upside down, distributing 831 Malaysian flags as a symbol of unity.
He accused Akmal of interfering with judicial processes, pressuring the Attorney-General’s Chambers, and bullying an elderly minority citizen who had apologised and was arrested over the mistake. Akmal had threatened to protest outside the shop if charges were not filed within two days.
Lim questioned why Akmal was inciting provocative and sensitive protests when authorities had already acted, and accused him of double standards for not applying the same harsh criticism to government agencies, PAS, or UMNO Youth Terengganu for similar flag errors.
“The nation cannot allow one irresponsible individual to spread a false narrative of hate and interference in justice that goes against the core spirit of the Rukun Negara,” Lim said, urging immediate action from the Home Ministry.
