PAS president Hadi Awang said the space for reconciliation with Bersatu had effectively closed after the party contested against Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the Negeri Sembilan state election on Aug 1.
He said Bersatu leaders had also openly indicated their willingness to cooperate with Pakatan Harapan (PH) ahead of the Melaka state election.
“Yes, basically, Bersatu contested against us in the Negeri Sembilan state election. And there were statements about joining and working with PH,” he was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia.
Hadi, who is also the Marang MP, spoke to reporters after delivering a dhuha lecture at Rusila Mosque in Terengganu today.
PAS and Bersatu remain in PN
PAS and Bersatu are currently still part of PN.
On June 8, PAS decided to end its ties with Bersatu after reviewing the position and direction of political cooperation between the two parties based on current reports, studies and assessments.
Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin later claimed that PN had become toxic and had deviated from its struggle under PAS leadership.
Bersatu contested under its own logo
In the Negeri Sembilan state election, Bersatu contested under its own logo and suffered heavy losses.
However, PN won seven seats before forming the state government together with Barisan Nasional.
