Hulu Langat MP Mohd Sany Hamzan wants Pendang MP Awang Hashim referred to the Parliament’s Rights and Privileges Committee over remarks made on Thursday.
Sany claims Awang repeatedly used the term “Hulu Laknat” during the Home Minister’s winding-up speech last week.
He says the phrase is derogatory and clearly targets Hulu Langat, a Selangor district officially named by the Sultan for administrative and legal purposes.
Awang’s words not only damage Hulu Langat’s reputation and its people but also show disrespect to the Sultan’s authority, Sany told reporters.
Such conduct violates the Constitution and the expected standards for MPs in the Dewan Rakyat, he added.
This morning, Sany submitted a formal motion to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul for an immediate probe and suitable measures.
The motion seeks Awang’s referral to the committee under Rule 36(10)(a) of the Standing Orders due to the offensive nature of his speech.
At the same press conference, Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong accused Awang of recently calling Kota Melaka “Kota Celaka” in the House.
Khoo condemned the remark strongly.
Voters in his area feel upset and angry about it, he shared.
Khoo hopes the Speaker will approve Sany’s motion.
