Inspector Sheila (Sheila Sharon Steven Kumar, 37) pleaded not guilty at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court to a charge of obstructing a public servant on duty.
The charge states that between 8.15pm and 8.30pm on Nov 4, near a restaurant along Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah in Dang Wangi, she allegedly obstructed L/Cpl Malvinderjit Singh Teerath Singh, 37, who was on crime-prevention patrol.
The case is framed under Section 186 of the Penal Code, which carries up to two years’ jail or a fine of up to RM10,000, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Hench Goh proposed bail at RM7,000. Defence counsel M Manoharan sought a lower sum of RM500, citing the accused’s nine years in service, consistent court attendance, and her 70-year-old retired police officer father volunteering as surety, as well as family responsibilities.
Before entering court, Sheila cautioned photographers against taking her pictures without consent.
The defence said the accused informed them of her detention at 7.50am today and that she was being taken to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters.
The case follows an earlier viral video in which she was seen allegedly berating on-duty officers during a stop involving an unlicensed driver.
