Israel believes Iran is preparing for a large-scale coordinated attack against the country from several directions, according to assessments cited by The Jerusalem Post.
The assessments indicate that Tehran is seeking to involve its own forces, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas, Yemen’s Houthis and pro-Iranian armed groups in Iraq in a single campaign.
Such a scenario would involve simultaneous actions on several fronts, marking a different approach from the Hamas attack on Oct 7, when Iran’s other allies did not launch coordinated large-scale actions at the same time as the attack from the Gaza Strip.
Documents seized from Hamas in Gaza after the attack contained instructions calling for the need to “connect and prepare external fronts”, particularly in Lebanon, Syria and Sinai.
The documents also referred to the need to agree in advance on communication mechanisms for both peacetime and wartime.
According to published US and Israeli assessments, Iran and Hezbollah were not informed in advance of all the details of the Oct 7 attack plan or its exact date.
Those assessments said Yahya Sinwar expected the success of the initial attack to later draw Hezbollah and Iran into a broader campaign.
Increased coordination among groups
Arab media have reported that Tehran is seeking to address the previous lack of coordination and ensure simultaneous actions across different fronts.
Last month, reports also emerged that the Israel Defense Forces had detected renewed coordination between Hamas and Hezbollah with Iranian assistance.
According to a published assessment by the Israeli military, Hamas and Hezbollah had in recent weeks coordinated an intensification of their activities with Iranian assistance.
Separate reports also referred to discussions between senior Quds Force officials and commanders from Hezbollah, the Houthis and Iraqi armed groups on expanding the confrontation.
Two senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps officers said that during the previous period of calm, Quds Force representatives held conference calls with commanders of the groups, while Iranian advisers worked with them on the ground.
Iran seeks to restore capabilities
There were also reports of Iranian efforts to accelerate the production of missiles and drones and restore damaged capabilities.
