Iran has reportedly mobilised over one million military personnel in preparation for a potential ground invasion by the United States (US), military sources told the Tasnim news agency.
Speculation regarding a “historic mistake” by Washington involving an invasion from southern Iran has triggered a wave of readiness among the country’s ground forces.
According to sources, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Iranian army have received a massive influx of applications from youths eager to join the national defence.
“If the US chooses a suicidal tactic to open the Strait of Hormuz, we are ready. Whether they want to implement that strategy or keep the strait closed, the decision is in their hands,” the source stated.
Tensions reached a breaking point after the US and Israel launched major military operations against Iran following the assassination of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, along with several military commanders and civilians on February 28.
Air strikes targeting military and civilian facilities across Iran have reportedly resulted in heavy casualties and extensive infrastructure damage.
In response, the Iranian armed forces launched retaliatory strikes using missiles and drones against US and Israeli targets in occupied territories and regional bases.
