At least 14 people were injured in a violent attack involving a knife and an unspecified spray-like liquid at a Yokohama Rubber factory in central Japan on Friday afternoon.
Emergency services in Mishima, Shizuoka Prefecture, received a call at approximately 4:30 PM reporting that several individuals had been stabbed. Tomoharu Sugiyama, a local firefighting department official, confirmed that 14 victims were being transported for medical treatment.
According to public broadcaster NHK, all victims remained conscious following the attack. While the nature of the liquid used has not been officially confirmed, some reports suggest it may have been bleach.
Police swiftly arrested a man at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. The factory, located southeast of Mishima Station, specializes in manufacturing tires for trucks and buses.
While Japan is known for its low crime rate, this incident follows a string of occasional stabbing attacks in public spaces. The motive behind the assault remains under investigation.
