Three Chinese men have been arrested in Jeju after two Chinese women were allegedly held captive and forced to transfer 100,000 yuan, with police searching for two other suspects who fled to China.
According to Yonhap News on September 28, Seogwipo Police Station arrested three Chinese men, two in their twenties and one in his thirties, on charges including special robbery and joint unlawful confinement.
Police are also pursuing two other Chinese suspects believed to have fled to China.
Women allegedly held captive at private resort
The suspects are accused of detaining two Chinese women in their twenties at a private resort in Seogwipo City at around 2.30pm on September 21.
Police said the suspects allegedly took the women’s mobile phones and tablet computers before forcing them to transfer 100,000 yuan, equivalent to about 20 million won, to an account.
The case came to light the following day, when one of the women escaped from the scene in the afternoon and sought help nearby.
Three suspects arrested, two flee to China
After receiving the report, police arrested two suspects at the accommodation on September 22.
Another suspect was caught while attempting to leave through Jeju International Airport.
Police later determined that the remaining two accomplices had already left for China before the report was filed.
The police are now tracing the two suspects who fled to China through Interpol.
They are also conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the case, including how the suspects and the victims came to meet in Jeju.
