A high-speed pursuit in the KLIA vicinity yesterday resulted in the apprehension of a local man found to have an extensive criminal history involving 31 previous offences.
KLIA police chief M Ravi stated that the incident began when mobile patrol vehicle personnel, who were conducting routine crime prevention duties, spotted a red Honda Civic. Officers attempted to signal the driver to stop for a standard inspection, but the individual refused to comply.
The driver subsequently attempted a daring escape toward the KLIA terminal at Level 3. During the ensuing chase, the suspect rammed into five public vehicles along his path before police successfully intercepted and detained him near the scene.
Wanted suspect with extensive record
The incident, which occurred at approximately 4.30pm, was captured on video and has since circulated widely on social media platforms.
Background checks on the 30-year-old suspect revealed a lengthy list of prior criminal involvements. In addition to the 31 recorded offences, authorities confirmed that the man is currently wanted for a separate drug-related case.
Following the arrest, the suspect was taken into custody for further processing. He is expected to be produced before the Sepang court today for a remand application to facilitate deeper investigations.
Multiple charges pending investigation
Ravi confirmed that the case is being investigated under several different legal provisions. These include Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duties and Section 427 for committing mischief.
Additionally, the suspect faces investigation under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Police are also looking into various traffic-related offences committed during the pursuit at the airport terminal.
The authorities have not reported any injuries to the public despite the damage caused to the five vehicles involved in the collisions during the suspect’s attempt to evade arrest.
