DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook has hit out at certain parties for demanding resources and positions while simultaneously threatening to leave or contest against DAP in its constituencies. He stressed that if they had no intention to cooperate sincerely, they should openly quit the unity government.
“If you want to cooperate, then cooperate sincerely with a spirit of partnership; but if you want to fight, then quit the government and compete openly. Don’t take allocations, positions, and titles while still planning to confront us,” he said.
Loke reiterated that DAP’s stance is clear, the party remains a loyal ally of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and fully supports Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership.
He was speaking at the 23rd Negeri Sembilan DAP annual convention in Seremban today.
Mocking those who constantly complain, Loke said such parties were merely “daydreaming about seats,” adding that politics should not be played with duplicity.
“Some parties keep lamenting that they have no seats to contest, claiming DAP sidelines or persecutes them. I want to remind them that our seats were not handed to us by anyone, but fought for and won through decades of struggle and votes. Every seat must be defended, and not one can be lost.”
He stressed that DAP has never feared electoral battles. “If anyone wants to confront us, come forward. We are always ready.”
PN secretary-general Azmin Ali confirmed on Sept 5 that informal talks had taken place with MCA and MIC.
On Sept 6, MIC Youth deputy chief Kesavan attended Bersatu Youth’s general assembly, the first time MIC had received a formal invitation — signalling PN’s attempt to woo MCA and MIC.
In contrast, when asked by the media about MCA’s possible interest in PN, MCA president Wee Ka Siong declined to answer and instead told reporters to ask Azmin directly.
Wee had previously stated in June that due to frustration over MCA’s lack of influence in the government, the party’s 191 divisions would discuss its future direction, with proposals to be tabled at its annual general assembly in October.
