The Defence Ministry has stressed that firm action, including prosecution at the military court, will be taken against 15 Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) officers linked to immoral activities associated with the so-called ‘Yeye culture’ in army camps.
Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari said the ministry has clear disciplinary regulations and will not tolerate any conduct that tarnishes the military culture, whether involving the army, navy or air force.
He said any breach of discipline would first be investigated internally through a special committee before being brought before the military court.
“In our military system, we have a court martial. Those involved will be tried there, given the opportunity to defend themselves, and justice will be served before any punishment is imposed,” he said.
Adly was responding to remarks by Army chief General Azhan Md Othman, who confirmed that 15 officers had been identified as being involved in immoral activities linked to the viral ‘Yeye culture’ trend on social media.
He said the ministry remains committed to building a disciplined and integrity-driven culture within the armed forces, although cultural reform takes time.
However, he stressed that hedonistic culture is completely unacceptable within the ministry and the military, in line with Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin’s recent New Year address.
“Whether the incident is isolated or not, if it is not part of our culture, action will be taken in accordance with existing laws and procedures, including through the military court,” he said.
