Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s administration enjoys widespread public support, yet many Malaysians remain uncertain about the overarching “Malaysia Madani” concept, according to the Community Communications Department (J-Kom).
J-Kom Director-General Ismail Yusop highlighted that while initiatives like the Rahmah Sales programme and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) cash aid are well understood, the broader philosophy of Malaysia Madani remains elusive for many. “More than two years on, people are still asking what ‘Malaysia Madani’ is. They know about the Rahmah Sales and SARA, but don’t see that these are part of a wider national vision,” Ismail told reporters at an event in Taman Sentosa.
He emphasized that Malaysia Madani is not merely a slogan but a comprehensive framework for the nation’s future, as envisioned by the Prime Minister. “That message and narrative must be conveyed to the people on the ground,” Ismail stressed, underscoring the need for clearer communication to bridge the gap between policy and public understanding.
Since assuming the role of J-Kom chief nine months ago, Ismail has steered the department toward direct community engagement, moving away from reactive responses to opposition critiques. “If we respond, we fall into a defensive mode. That’s what the opposition wants, to distract us. I would rather we speak to the people directly,” he explained.
Ismail also noted that J-Kom now serves as the unified voice of the government, transcending partisan lines. “No one party dominates now. J-Kom represents the government, regardless of which party,” he affirmed, signaling a commitment to inclusive communication that prioritizes national unity and public outreach.
