A viral video showing a group of mat rempit performing dangerous stunts and blocking an ambulance on the North-South Expressway has sparked widespread outrage on social media.
The 43-second clip, uploaded by TikTok user @syafievans, was recorded by an ambulance driver rushing an injured patient to the hospital when several motorcyclists were seen hogging lanes and performing “Superman” stunts on the rain-soaked highway. The video has since garnered over 2.7 million views.
In the footage, the ambulance’s siren can be heard blaring as it struggles to overtake the riders, who appear unfazed and continue their antics despite repeated honks.
The ambulance driver condemned the riders’ reckless behaviour, saying they had obstructed an emergency vehicle on a critical mission.
“We were rushing to the scene and encountered these boys doing nonsense in front of us. I sounded the horn to signal them, but they ignored everything,” he wrote.
The video drew anger from Malaysians, with many netizens expressing disbelief and calling the riders’ actions “totally unacceptable.” Others urged the police and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to take stern action against the offenders, while many praised the ambulance driver for staying calm.
