The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission(MCMC) will summon China Press editor-in-chief over a alleged mistranslation of Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s royal address at the new parliamentary session opening.
Minister’s Directive
Communications minister Fahmi Fadzil ordered a full probe, citing early findings of a clear error by the media firm.
MCMC handles the investigation and the summon, he told a press conference after launching Pos Malaysia’s autonomous vehicle in Shah Alam today, per Kosmo.
Legal Basis and Content
Yesterday, Fahmi confirmed probes under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for misuse of network services.
The issue stemmed from a deleted Facebook post with a Mandarin headline implying Sultan Ibrahim said non-Bahasa Melayu speakers should leave Malaysia.
