Melaka Bersatu information chief Hishamuddin Abdul Karim has urged Sungai Udang assemblyman Mohd Aleef Yusof to immediately take down a social media post that used an impolite graphic against a state executive councillor.
Hishamuddin stated that the actions of the Bersatu representative did not reflect proper ethics and could damage the political image of the party as well as public trust.
He stressed the importance of removing all controversial content, including the specific graphic used, to prevent ongoing misunderstandings and to de-escalate public tension.
The controversy arose after Aleef uploaded an image of Melaka tourism, heritage, arts and culture executive councillor Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman with a dog sticker covering his face.
The post followed a heated exchange during the Melaka state assembly sitting.
Public apology and condemnation
In addition to the demand for the post’s removal, Hishamuddin issued an open apology to the people of Melaka and the state government leadership over the incident.
He offered a specific apology to Abdul Razak for any discomfort caused by the matter.
Hishamuddin condemned any form of political communication that is insulting, embarrassing, or belittling to any individual.
He noted that as people’s representatives, every action and word should reflect integrity, manners, and political maturity.
He further reminded party leaders and members of the necessity to maintain communication discipline. He urged them to practice a mature, prudent, and professional political culture to safeguard the party’s reputation.
Background of the dispute
The incident was triggered by Aleef’s claim that Abdul Razak, the Telok Mas assemblyman, failed to provide an adequate answer to a supplementary question regarding a floating market project.
Aleef alleged the project had been closed for a year and sought clarity on its reopening.
The offensive post had previously drawn a rebuke from Masjid Tanah member of parliament Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, who described the act as a failure of decorum expected of a Muslim and Malay leader.
Despite the calls for its removal, a check on the social media platform found that the post remained active, although the comment section had been disabled.
Hishamuddin reiterated that the good name of the party and the trust of the people are mandates that must be protected at all costs.
