Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that Malaysia remains on high alert in the face of external threats, particularly those linked to the Israeli intelligence agency, Mossad.
Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat today, Anwar said Malaysia’s security apparatus has long acknowledged the risks posed by foreign intelligence services, including Mossad.
“Based on the latest intelligence reports, Malaysian security agencies are treating this matter with utmost seriousness,” he said.
“Crucially, it has now been confirmed that Mossad not only maintains a presence in Malaysia, but has also succeeded in recruiting or collaborating with local individuals—including married couples—to act as agents or accomplices,” he added.
The prime minister was responding to a question from Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (PN-Machang), who sought clarification on the government’s strategy to prevent attacks by foreign operatives, particularly Mossad.
Anwar highlighted the difficulty in countering foreign intelligence operatives due to their speed and sophistication, which often allows them to flee before detection.
“One of the recent cases involved a married couple from Selangor who were allegedly involved in arms smuggling operations from Thailand, in collaboration with suspected Mossad agents. They have since been arrested and are currently in detention,” he said.
He further explained that Malaysia’s strong and vocal stance on international issues has contributed to the country becoming a target for illicit activities such as weapons and drug smuggling, attracting the attention of foreign agencies like Mossad.
Anwar, who also holds the portfolio of Finance Minister, said the government has implemented additional security measures and that the Home Ministry is actively working to enhance national counterintelligence capabilities.
He noted that Malaysia’s autogate immigration system has been upgraded with support from international bodies, including Interpol, to boost border security and screening efficiency.
Separately, Anwar reaffirmed Malaysia’s unwavering stance on geopolitical issues, stating that the country would not compromise its position on Gaza or Iran in exchange for trade advantages such as lower US tariffs.
“Our position remains firm. Malaysia will continue to speak out on matters of international concern without yielding to external pressure,” he said.
