Local rapper Wee Meng Chee, better known as Namewee, faces charges of drug possession and consumption, police confirmed.
City police chief Fadil Marsus revealed that officers arrested Wee at a hotel on the evening of October 22.
A search uncovered nine pills suspected to be ecstasy.
Wee underwent a two-day remand and tested positive for amphetamines, methamphetamine, ketamine, and THC.
On October 24, authorities charged him under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act for possession and Section 15(1)(a) for consumption.
Section 39A(1) carries a maximum penalty of five years in jail and up to nine strokes of the rotan upon conviction.
Section 15(1)(a) allows for up to two years in jail, a fine of RM5,000, or both.
Wee pleaded not guilty to both counts. The court granted bail at RM4,000 per charge, with one surety required for each.
The next case mention is scheduled for December 18.
Yesterday, Wee rejected claims linking him to drug use or possession in the death of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh.
In an Instagram update, he expressed confidence that the full police probe, expected to wrap up in two to three months, will clear his name.
