Controversial singer Wee Meng Chee, widely known as Namewee, is preparing to file representations to the Attorney-General’s Chambers regarding his two drug-related charges.
Representations to be filed soon
His lawyer, Nur A’minahtul Mardiah Md Nor, informed the magistrates’ court during case management today that the representations will be submitted within the next week.
Magistrate Atiqah Mohamed @ Mohamad Saim then scheduled April 8 for the prosecution to inform the court about the outcome.
Deputy public prosecutor Nurainizatul Farhana Zainal represented the prosecution in court.
Charges stem from October arrest
In January this year, Namewee pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
The first charge, under the Poisons Act 1952, involves possession of 0.78 grammes of sildenafil, a controlled substance commonly used in erectile dysfunction medication.
The second charge, an amended one under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, relates to possession of 1.57 grammes of methamphetamine.
Both alleged offences took place in a hotel room at Banyan Tree Hotel on Jalan Conlay, Kuala Lumpur, on October 22, 2025.
Arrest and initial findings
Namewee was arrested at a hotel in the capital following the discovery of nine blue pills suspected to be ecstasy in his room.
Police stated that he tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, ketamine, and THC.
He was brought to court and charged two days after the arrest.
Separately, the musician was also arrested in connection with investigations into the death of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yun Hsin.
He has since been released on bail, pending results from toxicology and autopsy reports.
