Police are searching for controversial singer Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, after failing to track him down amid a murder probe into the death of Taiwanese social media influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus said officers could not locate Wee, who was present at the hotel where Hsieh was found dead.
Fadil suspects Wee knows about the murder investigation through media reports. “We have not been able to locate him and we believe he has gone into hiding,” he was quoted as saying by The Star.
Hsieh had met Wee at the hotel to discuss filming a video together. He reportedly discovered her body in a bathtub.
Wee was arrested on October 22 at the hotel, where police found nine blue pills suspected to be ecstasy in the room. He later tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, ketamine and THC.
He faced charges for drug possession and consumption, pleaded not guilty, and was released on RM4000 bail for each count.
