Malaysian singer-songwriter Namewee has released a new single titled “Misread Me” on his social media accounts today, as he remains under public scrutiny over an ongoing murder investigation involving Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin.
The track comes with three full versions of lyrics in Chinese, English and Malay. In the English version, he opens with: “Misread me? Then misread. Hate me? Go ahead / Throw your dirt? Do it. Got no words? Then stay dead / Misread me? Then misread. Fake your love? I don’t need / I walk my path with my creed, my attitude never shifts speed,” centring on the idea of being misread, attacked and staying on his own path.
In the music video and visual materials released together with the song, Namewee appears bald and looks straight into the camera. The shaved-head image resembles photos previously published by the media when he was seen in police custody and escorted to court, creating a visual echo with earlier coverage.
The case involving Hsieh Yu-hsin, who was found dead in a hotel room in Kuala Lumpur, has been reclassified by police as murder, with a criminal investigation underway.
Namewee was detained to assist investigations after being with her at the hotel before her death, and was later released on police bail. Through his lawyer and social media posts, he has said he will continue to cooperate with the authorities.
“Misread Me” is now available on Namewee’s social media accounts and major streaming platforms.
