Pakatan Harapan (PH) is aiming to win between 21 and 22 seats in Saturday’s Negeri Sembilan election, while the Barisan Nasional-Perikatan Nasional (BN-PN) alliance has set its sights on securing more than 20 of the 36 seats being contested.
PH election director Amirudin Shari said the coalition’s target was based on its assessment of campaign developments on the ground and its performance in previous elections.
He expressed confidence that Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun’s leadership, together with PH’s record of governing Negeri Sembilan for two consecutive terms, would strengthen the coalition’s prospects.
“We are doing our best to secure a minimum of 19 seats, and if we perform better, we may be able to win between 21 and 22 seats. That is our best expectation,” he told reporters after attending an event at Dataran Melang on Thursday night.
He added that PH would continue campaigning while leaving the final decision to voters.
PH dismisses ‘blue wave’ narrative
Responding to claims that a “blue wave” in Johor could influence the Negeri Sembilan election, Amirudin said the narrative was being promoted by certain parties to sway voters.
He said PH would instead focus its campaign on the Malaysia Madani agenda and the importance of unity among the people.
BN-PN confident of securing over 20 seats
Meanwhile, Parti Wawasan Negara said the BN-PN alliance’s target of winning more than 20 seats was based on encouraging public support throughout the campaign.
Its secretary-general, Saifuddin Abdullah, said positive responses at campaign programmes, including the Mega Biru rally attended by more than 3,000 people, had strengthened the alliance’s confidence.
“The support we have received at every programme gives us confidence that our target of winning more than 20 state seats is achievable,” he was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia.
Majority requires at least 19 seats
A simple majority of at least 19 seats is required to form the Negeri Sembilan state government.
PH is contesting all 36 seats. BN is fielding candidates in 25 seats, while PN is contesting 11.
Although Bersatu remains a component party of PN, it is contesting 24 seats under its own logo, with two of those seats allocated to candidates from Urimai.
