A meeting between Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Ismail Lasim, his former executive council members and Tunku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja’afar has been cancelled.
Quoting a source, Sinar Harian reported that the meeting, scheduled for 9am, was called off due to ‘security concerns’.
The meeting was initially intended as an ‘ice-breaking’ session to build rapport between Tunku Nadzaruddin, Ismail and the former executive council members.
Meeting cancelled amid state crisis
The four purported undangs, the Tunku Besar of Tampin and the Shahbandar of Sungai Ujong were also expected to attend the meeting.
The cancellation comes amid a constitutional crisis in Negeri Sembilan.
On Sept 17, the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) rejected a proclamation purporting to remove Yang Dipertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as the state ruler, along with a subsequent announcement by the state executive council affirming the proclamation.
The AGC said the proclamation was invalid, adding that the menteri besar and executive council members had no unilateral power to remove the state ruler.
Tuanku Muhriz revokes exco appointments
On Sept 20, Tuanku Muhriz revoked the appointments of 10 executive council members, citing breaches of their oaths of office.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was granted an audience with Tuanku Muhriz the following day.
