Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Aminuddin Harun has called for an emergency meeting at his official residence this afternoon.
The move follows a sudden announcement by Umno to withdraw its support for his leadership.
In a parallel development, the Negeri Sembilan DAP, which occupies 11 seats in the state assembly, is set to hold its own meeting at the party office at 2pm today.
Both meetings were confirmed by Nilai assemblyman Arul Kumar Jambunathan.
The state is currently facing a significant political upheaval after Negeri Sembilan Umno declared that all 14 of its assemblymen have retracted their backing for Aminuddin, who represents PKR.
Links to royal leadership crisis
The state Umno chairman, Jalaluddin Alias, stated that the decision to withdraw support is connected to an ongoing crisis involving four chieftains. These figures are reportedly seeking to remove the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, from his throne.
Jalaluddin added that an official letter regarding the withdrawal of support would be formally submitted to the speaker and the secretary of the state legislative assembly.
The loss of Umno’s 14 seats leaves the Pakatan Harapan administration in a precarious position.
In the 36-seat assembly, a minimum of 19 seats is required to form a government. Without Umno, Pakatan Harapan is left with only 17 seats.
Perikatan Nasional signals readiness
Amidst the unfolding instability, the five assemblymen from Perikatan Nasional have expressed their willingness to collaborate with the 14 Umno representatives.
They indicated that such a partnership could form a new state government to ensure administrative stability.
If Umno and Perikatan Nasional were to align, their combined 19 seats would meet the threshold required to command a majority in the state assembly.
The political situation remains fluid as the respective parties deliberate their next steps in their emergency sessions this afternoon.
