PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad has urged all stakeholders to honor the decisions reached by PAS and Bersatu during their recent pivotal assemblies, emphasizing mutual respect as the cornerstone of their coalition, Perikatan Nasional (PN), ahead of the 16th General Election (GE16).
At its muktamar last weekend, PAS passed a motion to lead PN and nominate a PAS candidate for prime minister. This followed Bersatu’s general assembly on September 7, where the party endorsed its president, Muhyiddin Yassin, as its prime ministerial candidate for GE16.
“Every party should respect the autonomy of both PAS and Bersatu to make their own decisions,” Idris stated, reinforcing PAS’s commitment to collaborating with PN coalition partners in preparation for the upcoming election.
Idris highlighted PN’s unity as its greatest asset, expressing confidence that a cohesive coalition could deliver equitable and effective solutions to pressing national challenges. He emphasized the need for PN to prioritize critical issues, including housing affordability, the rising cost of living, and fuel subsidy policies.
Despite PAS’s motion to lead PN, its president, Abdul Hadi Awang, clarified that the PN Supreme Council would ultimately determine the coalition’s prime ministerial candidate for GE16. Similarly, PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin affirmed that while individual PN components are free to nominate their preferred candidates, the final decision rests with the coalition’s top leadership council.
