PAS and Barisan Nasional (BN) have reached an in-principle agreement to cooperate in the Melaka state election, says PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.
However, Hadi said negotiations over seat allocations and candidates were still ongoing, Sinar Harian reported.
“In principle, most of the negotiations have reached an agreement. But the number of seats and candidates will be discussed,” he was quoted as saying after an event in Kuala Terengganu.
He said political cooperation must take into account the circumstances and needs of each state, including Melaka.
Seat allocation talks ongoing
Hadi said PAS’s proposed candidates would be discussed before their names were submitted to the party’s Syura Council for approval.
Yesterday, Perikatan Nasional deputy chairman Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the coalition would contest more than four of the 28 seats in the Melaka election.
Tuan Ibrahim said the matter had been discussed at a cooperation meeting with BN and was expected to be finalised soon through further talks with Umno and BN.
Melaka election dates confirmed
The Election Commission has set Nov 14 as polling day for the 16th Melaka state election, following the dissolution of the state assembly on Sept 23.
Nomination day is Oct 31, while early voting will take place on Nov 10.
