PAS has denied that it will announce its candidates for the Melaka state election alongside Barisan Nasional (BN), despite BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi saying both sides would unveil their candidates on the same stage on Saturday.
PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said his party planned to announce its candidates on October 28 or 29 instead.
“So far, no. We will announce it either on the 28th or 29th (of October),” Utusan Malaysia quoted him as telling reporters in Kota Bharu.
The Melaka state election is scheduled for November 14.
PAS seeks additional seats in negotiations
Tuan Ibrahim also denied that seat negotiations between PAS and BN had been finalised, saying Perikatan Nasional (PN) was still seeking one or two additional seats.
He said negotiations remained at the main committee stage and were expected to be concluded within the next day or two.
“For the Melaka election, we are at the main committee stage and will finalise it within these next couple of days,” he said.
“Although the seven seats mentioned by Zahid were those not won by BN, we are still negotiating for one or two more seats today or tomorrow, God willing.”
Zahid had said BN would contest 21 of Melaka’s 28 state seats, while PAS and its political partners would contest the remaining seven following months of negotiations.
Tuan Ibrahim said the seven seats offered to PN were previously won by DAP and Pakatan Harapan in constituencies with a mix of Malay and Chinese voters.
PN relieved over court ruling on coalition logo
Meanwhile, Tuan Ibrahim expressed relief after the High Court granted a stay on the Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) decision to suspend and deregister PN, allowing the coalition to continue using its logo for the Melaka polls.
“Alhamdulillah, the High Court yesterday granted a stay, which means we can use the PN logo. However, we received information that the RoS will file an appeal,” he said.
