PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has voiced optimism that parties within Perikatan Nasional (PN) can settle their internal conflicts discreetly, following a public rebuke by Bersatu’s Wan Saiful Wan Jan against the party’s secretary-general, Azmin Ali.
“Every political party has its own mechanism to address such matters,” Tuan Ibrahim told FMT.
During a press conference yesterday, Wan Saiful asserted that Azmin was unsuitable to lead Bersatu until the controversy surrounding a 2019 video—allegedly depicting the former minister in homosexual acts—was fully resolved.
The footage purportedly captured Azmin with another man at a hotel in Sandakan. At the time, Haziq Aziz, who served as the Santubong PKR Youth chief, released a video confession identifying himself and Azmin as the individuals involved.
Azmin, then the economic affairs minister and PKR deputy president, firmly denied the accusations, describing them as a conspiracy aimed at derailing his political career.
An investigation by CyberSecurity Malaysia determined that the clip was genuine, though facial recognition of the participants proved impossible due to the recording’s low resolution.
The material was further analyzed by forensic experts in the United States, who corroborated these findings.
PAS election director Sanusi Nor refrained from commenting, stating: “We don’t want to interfere in their (Bersatu) affairs.”
Echoing this stance, PAS Youth information chief Khairul Nadzir Helmi Azhar emphasized that the Islamic party discourages its members from meddling in the internal matters of other parties.
He stressed that PN’s priority must remain on tackling public issues.
“PN will continue to be strengthened regardless of internal disputes or external pressures faced by its component parties. The people’s issues come first,” he said.
