PAS has decided that its state assemblymen will not join the state executive council (exco) to be formed by newly appointed Perlis menteri besar Abu Bakar Hamzah.
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said all existing PAS exco members would resign from their posts as a show of solidarity and in line with the resignation of former menteri besar Mohd Shukri Ramli.
“PAS remains committed to ensuring continuity and its presence in the Perlis state government in accordance with the mandate given by the people at the 15th general election,” he said.
“However, at the same time, PAS will not be part of the state executive council to be formed by the new menteri besar, and all existing PAS exco members will step down in solidarity with the former menteri besar,” he said in a statement today.
Abu Bakar said yesterday that the reshuffle and appointment of a new Perlis exco lineup are expected to be finalised within two weeks.
The Perlis Perikatan Nasional deputy chairman said he would first hold discussions with state secretary Rahimi Ismail before submitting the proposed lineup to the Raja of Perlis.
At present, four PAS representatives sit in the Perlis exco, in addition to the state assembly speaker Rus’sele Eizan.
They are Wan Badariah Wan Saad (Mata Ayer), Muhammad Azmir Azizan (Santan), Asrul Aimran Abd Jalil (Kayang) and Razali Saad (Simpang Empat).
Former PAS exco member Mohd Ridzuan Hashim had his party membership terminated, resulting in the Guar Sanji seat being declared vacant.
Two other PAS seats, Chuping and Bintong were also declared vacant following the political crisis in Perlis.
With three seats vacant, PAS now holds six of the 15 Perlis assembly seats, while Bersatu has five seats and Pakatan Harapan holds one seat in Indera Kayangan.
