PAS has urged UMNO members and supporters to revive the spirit of Muafakat Nasional as a basis for Muslim unity ahead of the 16th General Election.
The party stressed that cooperation between PAS and UMNO remains essential for political stability, especially at the grassroots level.
PAS Central Election Director Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said the party welcomes support from UMNO members, even if they stay organised within UMNO.
Open Invitation to UMNO Members
Sanusi invited UMNO friends to join PAS efforts. He expressed confidence that intelligent UMNO members in Sik would vote for PAS in the coming election.
The remarks appeared in a Facebook post on the Kedah PAS liaison page on Sunday.
Maintaining Cordial Ties
Sanusi, who is Sik PAS division chief and Kedah Perikatan Nasional chairman, called for preserving the friendly relationship between PAS and UMNO members. He emphasised mutual respect despite party differences.
During the Muafakat Nasional era, PAS members often attended UMNO events, such as weddings, showing community unity.
Strengthening Muslim Unity
Muslims share the same faith, prayer direction, and community bonds, like siblings in the same village. Sanusi said this unity must continue in daily life, politics, administration, and governance.
PAS stands firmly with Islam until the end.
Sanusi stressed that PAS does not practise selective treatment in political partnerships. The party extends fair treatment to all sides.
He urged PAS members to work harder for victory in the next general election.
Background to the Call
UMNO Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh earlier suggested reviving Muafakat Nasional. The idea followed political developments in Perlis involving loss of confidence in menteri besar Mohd Shukri Ramli.
PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari also supported the revival, calling it a resurgence of Muslim unity.
