PAS will not deploy its election machinery to assist Bersatu in the 16th Johor state election, despite both parties contesting under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) banner.
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said the two parties would operate separate campaign machinery and adopt different campaign strategies, although both would use the PN logo in the July 11 election.
“We remain with PN. As for Bersatu, we do not know their strategy. Perhaps they have their own approach. The PAS machinery will focus on our 11 state seats,” he told reporters after delivering a Duha lecture at Masjid Rusila.
Separate campaign machinery
Hadi said Bersatu had insisted on using the PN logo, adding that PAS was not withdrawing from the coalition despite ending its political cooperation with the party.
He stressed that both parties would conduct separate election campaigns throughout the Johor polls.
PAS stands by decision
Hadi said the dispute between PAS and Bersatu had been resolved and reaffirmed the party’s decision to end political cooperation with Bersatu.
He added that PAS aimed to strengthen its role as the opposition and serve as a check and balance on the Johor government.
“We are contesting 11 seats. We have chosen constituencies we are confident of winning. The important thing is that Johor is governed by Malay Muslims,” he said.
Johor polls approaching
Nomination day for the Johor state election is scheduled for tomorrow.
Early voting will take place on July 7, while polling is set for July 11.
