PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has urged Bersatu to take disciplinary measures against its five Perlis assemblymen. These representatives reportedly signed statutory declarations withdrawing support for Shukri Ramli as menteri besar.
Tuan Ibrahim noted that PAS has already acted against its own members who took similar steps. He emphasised the need for firm action to show respect for coalition partners in Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Comparison to Past Incident
Tuan Ibrahim recalled Bersatu’s decision last year to expel former Nenggiri assemblyman Azizi Abu Naim. Azizi had supported Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, leading to a by-election in the Kelantan seat.
The Perlis situation, he said, is more severe as it directly impacts the stability of the PN state government.
PAS Takes Decisive Steps
PAS terminated the membership of its three Perlis assemblymen yesterday. The affected representatives are Saad Seman (Chuping), Fakhrul Anwar Ismail (Bintong), and Ridzuan Hashim (Guar Sanji).
They had joined Bersatu counterparts in retracting support for Shukri.
Shukri’s Resignation and Reaction
Shukri Ramli resigned as menteri besar today after three years in office. He cited health reasons for his decision.
Shukri voiced disappointment over his PAS colleagues’ involvement in the move to remove him. He said the development took him by surprise.
Stronger Call from PAS Information Chief
PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari issued a firmer call for Bersatu to discipline its assemblymen. He shared his views in a Facebook post.
Failing to act, he warned, might suggest Bersatu’s lack of interest in sustaining cooperation with PAS within PN. This could strain ties in the coalition.
