Pakatan Harapan (PH) remains keen on forging an alliance with Barisan Nasional (BN) for the upcoming Melaka election, contrary to claims that the coalition had ruled out a pact with BN.
PH election director Amirudin Shari said the coalition was prioritising winning the election, political stability and the people’s interests when negotiating electoral pacts.
He said the “door is still open” and that PH was holding talks “with everybody”.
“Now there are two other major coalitions, BN and Perikatan Nasional, and parties like Bersatu. It is still an open game,” he told reporters after attending the opening of Sunway Medical Centre Damansara here.
Amirudin, however, acknowledged that he had received mixed responses from party leaders.
He said PH would nonetheless strive to find an “amicable solution”.
Mixed signals over potential alliances
On Tuesday, Amanah communications director Khalid Samad was reported to have said that PH was open to working with any party except BN and PN.
However, Melaka Amanah chief Ashraf Mukhlis Minghat dismissed Khalid’s remarks as his personal view.
Ashraf said PH was keeping the door open to the possibility of an alliance, including with BN or Bersatu.
BN and Bersatu yet to commit
BN has not committed to an alliance with any party for the Melaka polls, despite coalition chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi initially saying it would join forces with PN again.
Bersatu has separately said it will not cooperate with any party in the Melaka polls, including PH.
