Pakatan Harapan (PH) is expected to announce its candidates for the Melaka state election one to two weeks before nomination day, said Prime Minister’s political secretary Azman Abidin.
Azman said the move would allow PH to make preparations earlier instead of waiting until the last minute to finalise its candidates, Bernama reported.
‘This time, we are better prepared to name our candidates,’ he told reporters after visiting beneficiaries under the Ziarah Kasih programme at the Kuala Linggi state constituency today.
Candidate selection to involve party grassroots
Azman said the candidate selection process would be left to the party leadership for the final decision.
The process would take into account lists submitted by party divisions, state leaders and the grassroots before the candidates are finalised.
The Melaka State Legislative Assembly was dissolved today, paving the way for the 16th state election.
BN, PH and PN set for Melaka polls
In the November 2021 state election, Barisan Nasional (BN) won 21 of the 28 seats contested, while PH secured five seats and Perikatan Nasional (PN) won two.
BN is being courted by both PH, its federal ally, and PN ahead of the Melaka election.
PN and BN formed an electoral pact ahead of last month’s Negeri Sembilan state election.
