Rawang assemblyman and Selayang PKR division chief Chua Wei Kiat has urged the Malaysian government to take bold and proactive action by offering a RM10 million reward to anyone, individuals, private entities, or foreign enforcement agencies, who can provide verified information leading to the capture and extradition of 1MDB fugitive Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low.
Chua stressed that Jho Low must return to face justice just as former prime minister Najib Razak did.
“Anyone involved in crimes must face the law, not live in hiding for life,” he said.
He proposed the reward of RM10 million, equivalent to about 0.035% of the over RM29 billion in 1MDB funds recovered so far.
“If this bounty can bring Jho Low home, it is a worthy investment in justice and sends a clear message to the world that Malaysia will not compromise in fighting mega-corruption.”
Chua pointed out that offering bounties is not unusual internationally, citing the United States, India and China as examples that use such measures to track down wanted criminals, terrorists and those involved in cross-border money laundering and corruption.
“Jho Low is not just a suspect; he symbolizes a breached system, manipulated institutions and stolen national wealth,” Chua said.
He questioned how true justice could be achieved if Jho Low, who holds key evidence to the 1MDB scandal, continues to live freely overseas.
Recent international media reports suggested Jho Low is believed to be living in a luxury area in Shanghai, China, using a fake Australian passport.
Chua added that all individuals involved in the 1MDB scandal must be held accountable, regardless of rank or wealth, and that Jho Low’s return is vital to complete investigations and prosecutions, preventing future DNAA (discharge not amounting to acquittal) outcomes due to missing witnesses and insufficient evidence.
