Another PKR Member of Parliament has become the victim of cyber blackmail involving AI-generated pornography, following similar cases involving Rafizi Ramli and Wong Chen.
Sungai Petani MP Mohammed Taufiq Johari confirmed that on September 12, he received an anonymous email containing a digitally manipulated pornographic video of him, alongside a demand for USD100,000 (approximately RM420,000) to prevent its release.
“The email contained pornographic content using my image, manipulated with AI technology to damage my dignity and integrity. This is a very serious cybercrime,” Taufiq said in a Facebook statement.
He said he had lodged a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and would also be filing a police report.
His revelation follows that of Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli, who said he received an email with a blurred screenshot allegedly showing him with another man, along with a QR code for ransom payment.
Rafizi believes the video is recycled content edited to smear his reputation and possibly breach his electronic devices.
“I have faced multiple hacking attempts on my phone and laptop. The most serious case involved an international firm attempting to break into my iPhone and Apple account, but Apple’s security system quickly intervened,” Rafizi said.
He added that he has been targeted four times in the past nine months: on November 14, 2024, March 6, June 25, and September 3, 2025.
Subang MP Wong Chen also contacted Rafizi after receiving a nearly identical extortion attempt. He has lodged a police report.
Subang Jaya District Police Chief ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat confirmed that police have opened an investigation under Section 385 of the Penal Code (extortion) and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, adding that efforts are ongoing to trace the source of the email.
