PKR has not discussed the corruption allegations against Shamsul Iskandar Akin, according to party information chief Fahmi Fadzil.
He said the issue has not been raised since Shamsul resigned as the prime minister’s political secretary on Tuesday. Fahmi added that it will be addressed at the next central leadership council meeting.
Details of Allegations Emerge
Shamsul, who heads PKR in Melaka, stepped down after learning of efforts to exploit the controversy to damage his and the government’s reputation.
Businessman Albert Tei claimed he spent over RM600,000 on Shamsul, covering property renovations, premium cigars and custom-made suits. Tei said this was done with assurances of recovering funds channelled to Sabah politicians.
Tei also released screenshots of WhatsApp chats where Shamsul allegedly asked for foreign currency before overseas trips. Shamsul has filed a police report against Tei. The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission is probing the claims.
Anwar’s Stance on the Case
Fahmi, also the government spokesman, said Anwar Ibrahim stressed that no one is above the law in this matter. The prime minister made clear he will not protect anyone from authorities. This underscores the government’s commitment to transparency.
