A serious accident involving a trailer and a tanker at KM40.6 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) has resulted in severe traffic congestion stretching up to 10km. The collision occurred on the northbound stretch between Kulai and Sedenak.
As of 1.23pm, all northbound lanes at the affected section remained closed to facilitate emergency operations. To manage the growing gridlock, traffic is being diverted at the Kulai toll plaza.
Motorists have been advised to exercise patience and seek alternative routes where possible to avoid the bottleneck that has built up since the incident.
Emergency response and traffic diversion
The highway operator, PLUS, has issued an urgent request for cooperation from all road users. Motorists are urged to clear the path to allow emergency responders and rescue vehicles swift access to the accident site.
Highway personnel are currently on-site to manage the flow of vehicles. PLUS has reminded the public to strictly follow all instructions provided by the authorities and to utilise the designated alternative route via the Kulai toll plaza.
The impact of the closure has been significant, affecting travel times for those heading north from Johor Bahru towards Central Region destinations.
Viral footage of rescue efforts
In the aftermath of the crash, a video has circulated widely on social media platforms showing the intensity of the situation. The footage depicts a group of bystanders working together to move an individual away from a burning vehicle at the scene.
The authorities have yet to provide official details regarding any injuries sustained in the incident or the cause of the fire.
Recovery work is ongoing to clear the wreckage and ensure the safety of the carriageway before lanes can be reopened to the public. High-volume traffic is expected to persist in the surrounding areas throughout the afternoon.
