Perikatan Nasional (PN) has filed a judicial review application challenging two notices issued by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) against the coalition.
PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the application was filed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court today by the secretaries-general of PN’s component parties.
RoS director-general Zulkifar Ahmad and Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail were named as respondents.
PN also filed a certificate of urgency seeking an expedited hearing on its status as a registered political coalition.
PN seeks to quash RoS notices
Takiyuddin said the application included several orders known as ‘certiorari’ to quash the notices issued by RoS against PN.
“The first is the notice dated Sept 22 under Section 13(2) of the Societies Act 1966, which asked PN to explain to RoS why a move to deregister PN should not be made.
“The second is that PN is asking for a declaration that the notice under Section 13(2A) to suspend all activities until a date to be notified is invalid,” Berita Harian quoted him as saying at a press conference in Parliament today.
Takiyuddin, who is also PAS secretary-general, said PN was seeking official clarification from RoS on whether it was eligible to field candidates, particularly in the coming Melaka state election.
PN seeks clarification over Bersatu complaint
“PN also wants it officially clarified what the complaint by Bersatu is, because PN has only heard about it in the media, even though Bersatu is part of PN,” he said.
RoS suspended PN a day after issuing the show-cause notice following a complaint lodged by Bersatu.
The suspension, which took effect on Sept 23, was intended to safeguard PN’s interests and prevent it from continuing to breach its rules, RoS said.
Takiyuddin had previously suggested that political pressure might have been behind the suspension.
