Analysts warn that Perikatan Nasional’s ability to manage the economy will not suffice to win voter support in the next general election.
They urge PN to field leaders who also prioritise social stability and national unity.
Voters Seek Holistic Leadership
Syaza Shukri from International Islamic University Malaysia noted that calls for PN to highlight economic expertise overlook today’s discerning voters. These voters demand leaders capable of genuine governance, reform, restructuring, and progress.
Economic growth relies heavily on social stability, she emphasised. Lasting stability stems from unity across religious and ethnic lines.
Syaza responded to Bersatu’s Indera Mahkota MP Saifuddin Abdullah’s remark that PN needs economically capable leaders ahead of GE16. Parliament is now in the third year of its five-year term.
Questioning Highlighted Leaders
Ahmad Zaharuddin Sani Ahmad Sabri of Global Asia Consulting cast doubt on the economic prowess attributed to certain PN figures. These include Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and Bachok MP Syahir Che Sulaiman.
Zaharuddin questioned whether such claims amount to political posturing or propaganda hiding weaknesses. Without concrete proof, these assertions risk confusing the public and appearing as mere rhetoric.
True economic management demands transparency, sound policies, and visible outcomes, not image-building, he said. Citizens should scrutinise claims against facts and real achievements to separate hollow words from beneficial strategies.
