Perikatan Nasional (PN) component parties could contest the upcoming Melaka state election under the PAS logo if the coalition remains suspended by the Registrar of Societies (RoS), says PN and PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan.
Takiyuddin said PAS had no objection to other PN component parties using its logo, although Bersatu had specifically been asked to contest under its own logo.
However, he said the choice of logo was not particularly important for the Melaka polls, Harian Metro reported.
Several logo options on the table
‘It is not a must for each component to contest under its own logo. They can all use the same logo to show a united front,’ he said.
‘So there would be nothing wrong with one of the PN parties’ logos being used by all components, whether PAS’ or another’s.’
Takiyuddin said using the PAS logo was among the options available if PN remained suspended when nominations for the Melaka election were held.
‘These are among our options if PN remains suspended (when the Melaka election nominations are held),’ he said.
EC to set Melaka election dates
The Election Commission is scheduled to meet on Oct 7 to determine the key dates for the Melaka state election, following the dissolution of the state assembly on Wednesday.
On the same day the Melaka legislature was dissolved, the RoS suspended PN following a complaint filed by Bersatu.
The coalition has been given 30 days to provide an explanation regarding the complaint.
PAS, which chairs PN through its vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, is the coalition’s largest component, with 43 parliamentary seats and 146 state seats.
