Perikatan Nasional’s top leaders are seeking a meeting with the director-general of the Registrar of Societies following the suspension of the coalition.
PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the coalition was in the final process of completing an official explanation regarding a complaint filed by Bersatu. The response is to be filed in two weeks.
“Yesterday, the PN leadership also sent a letter requesting a special meeting with the RoS director-general to obtain clarification on the situation,” he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.
Possibility of deregistration remains open
Takiyuddin added that the coalition could not predict what would happen next, acknowledging the possibility of PN being deregistered.
“If our explanation satisfies the RoS, then we may not be deregistered. If it’s unsatisfactory, then we might be deregistered. That’s all.”
Takiyuddin, who is also PAS secretary-general, again questioned the timing of the suspension. He pointed out that it came on the same day the Melaka assembly was dissolved to pave the way for a state election.
Suspension follows show-cause notice
The RoS suspended PN on Wednesday, one day after issuing a show-cause notice following a complaint lodged by Bersatu.
RoS said the suspension was intended to safeguard the organisation’s interests and did not amount to deregistration.
Takiyuddin had suggested that political pressure may be behind the suspension.
