The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Johor has remanded two policemen suspected of soliciting and accepting a bribe of approximately RM635,000 in exchange for not taking action on a gambling-related offence.
Magistrate Mohammad Izham Mohd Aliyas granted a seven-day remand order until August 5, 2025, after MACC filed the application at the Johor Bahru Magistrate’s Court this morning.
According to sources, the two male suspects, both in their 40s, were arrested around 2am today when they came to the Johor MACC office to provide their statements.
“Initial investigations suggest both suspects colluded in soliciting and receiving bribes in cash to avoid legal action against an individual involved in gambling activities,” the source said.
When contacted, Johor MACC Deputy Director of Operations, Hairul Ilham Hamzah, confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009.
