DAP Secretary-General and Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook said today Malaysia is committed to dialogue and multilateralism to safeguard peace and build a fairer global order.
Loke said he felt deeply honoured to attend the “80th Anniversary Commemoration of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War” military parade at Tiananmen Square.
He described the commemoration as a significant moment to safeguard global peace and reinforce a rules-based multilateral international order.
“Our forefathers in Southeast Asia fought with blood and tears against Japanese militarism. This history shows the unity and resilience of different ethnic groups who stood up against oppression,” Loke said.
Quoting Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, he stressed that “unity in diversity” and “consolidating peace” must transcend political ideologies, while multilateralism remains key to ensuring fairness in the global order and shared prosperity among nations.
At the reception following the parade, Loke noted that peace is not guaranteed, but must be built through mutual respect, civility and rational cooperation among nations.
“Malaysia is committed to playing a proactive role in ASEAN, the Asia-Pacific and globally by promoting dialogue instead of confrontation, to foster cooperation and peaceful coexistence,” he said.
He added that Asia can contribute wisdom and strength, and if nations commit to diplomacy and negotiations, the 21st century could be remembered as an era of “ending wars and achieving common security.”
