Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor has confirmed that the state legislative assembly will be dissolved ahead of its automatic dissolution on November 11 to facilitate the 17th state election, as reported by Berita Harian.
Hajiji refrained from specifying whether the dissolution would be announced in October or November, maintaining an air of anticipation. “It definitely will be soon, just be patient and wait,” he stated. He emphasized that the decision would not hinge on weather forecasts, despite the meteorology department’s prediction of wet conditions across Sabah in October. “We have no choice because the state assembly automatically dissolves in November anyway. So we must dissolve it before that,” he explained.
Under state regulations, the election must take place within 60 days following the assembly’s dissolution.
The announcement comes as Sabah contends with severe flooding that has displaced hundreds of residents. Torrential rains have also triggered devastating landslides, claiming 13 lives, including seven children, adding urgency to the state’s preparations for the upcoming electoral process.
