Two Bersatu assemblymen in Selangor believe the party could support the administration of menteri besar Amirudin Shari until the end of its current term.
Gombak Setia assemblyman and Bersatu Youth chief Hilman Idham said such a move was “not impossible”, pointing out that Bersatu had previously worked with both Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan.
“The public interest is our priority,” he told FMT when asked whether Bersatu’s Selangor assemblymen could follow the example of their two colleagues in Pahang, who have declared their support for menteri besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail until the next state election.
Final decision rests with party leadership
Kuang assemblyman Rafiq Abdullah said any decision on the matter would ultimately depend on the party leadership.
“It is possible, but it depends on the leadership. As party members, we will abide by their decision,” he said.
In the 2023 Selangor state election, Pakatan Harapan won 32 of the 56 state seats, while Perikatan Nasional secured 22, comprising 12 seats for Bersatu and 10 for PAS. Barisan Nasional won two seats.
Pahang reps cite political stability
Earlier, two Bersatu assemblymen in Pahang, Kuala Sentul assemblyman Jasri Jamaludin and Lepar assemblyman Yazid Yunus, said their decision to support Wan Rosdy had received the backing of the party’s top leadership.
They said the decision was aimed at safeguarding political stability in Pahang and protecting the welfare of their constituents.
