Manchester City’s Premier League title bid suffered another setback as Dominic Solanke’s brace, including a stunning scorpion kick, earned struggling Tottenham a dramatic 2-2 draw on Sunday.
City appeared in control with a 2-0 half-time lead, but Spurs fought back fiercely in the second half to deny Pep Guardiola’s side all three points.
City’s lead evaporates in thrilling comeback
Rayan Cherki gave the visitors an early advantage, and Antoine Semenyo doubled the lead before the break, leaving Tottenham fans frustrated at half-time.
However, Solanke pulled one back shortly after the restart with a close-range finish.
He then produced a moment of brilliance, hooking the ball past Gianluigi Donnarumma with an acrobatic scorpion kick to level the scores.
The result leaves City six points behind leaders Arsenal, having won just one of their six league matches in 2026.
“We haven’t had the consistency to win the games when others were able to do it,” Guardiola said.
Solanke’s return from a long-term injury has been a boost for Spurs manager Thomas Frank, who gained some breathing space despite his side’s difficult season.
United snatch late victory at Old Trafford
In another end-to-end contest, Manchester United secured a thrilling 3-2 win over Fulham thanks to Benjamin Sesko’s stoppage-time strike.
Casemiro and Matheus Cunha put United in command either side of half-time under interim boss Michael Carrick.
Fulham fought back strongly, with Raul Jimenez converting a penalty five minutes from time before Kevin’s spectacular effort seemed to have salvaged a point.
But Sesko spun onto Bruno Fernandes’ pass and blasted into the top corner to seal a third straight league victory for United, propelling them back into the top four.
“It’s the best feeling I have to say,” Carrick said.
“Some of the best moments I’ve been part of here… you get a moment of elation and excitement like that.”
The win came a week after United’s 3-2 triumph at Arsenal, echoing some of the club’s glory days.
Other results dent top-four hopes
To add to Arsenal’s delight, third-placed Aston Villa fell 1-0 at home to 10-man Brentford.
Kevin Schade was sent off for kicking out at Matty Cash before Dango Ouattara fired the Bees ahead in first-half stoppage time from a tight angle.
Villa pressed hard after the break but could not find a way through.
Crystal Palace were also held to a 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest despite a man advantage.
Morgan Gibbs-White gave Forest an early lead, but Neco Williams’ handball on the line led to a red card and an Ismaila Sarr penalty equaliser.
Palace, however, could not capitalise and remain winless in 12 league games.
