Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul has stated that he has not yet received any formal notification concerning the resignation of Larut Member of Parliament Hamzah Zainudin from the position of Opposition Leader.
The Speaker confirmed the current status of the matter when contacted by Bernama today, noting that the expected correspondence has not reached his office.
Notification pending from Perikatan Nasional
This development follows an announcement made on Sunday by Perikatan Nasional chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, who indicated that Hamzah Zainudin was no longer serving in the role.
Ahmad Samsuri further noted that instructions had been issued to Perikatan Nasional secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan to facilitate the process.
Formal procedures for vacancy
The instructions involved the submission of an official letter to inform the Speaker of the vacancy in the Opposition Leader’s post.
However, as of the Speaker’s latest confirmation, the administrative process required to formalise the leadership change in the August House remains outstanding.
