TikTok’s management has been summoned to Bukit Aman tomorrow after repeatedly being accused of delayed cooperation with police investigations, particularly in cases involving fake accounts and misinformation.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said TikTok took too long to provide crucial information to police, citing the recent case of a fake surgeon account.
“In the latest case involving a bogus doctor, TikTok’s response was so slow that I had to personally call the CEO to push for cooperation,” he revealed.
The meeting will also address complaints regarding TikTok Shop, after customers reported receiving products that did not match their orders.
“We don’t want users to order one thing but receive something completely different,” Fahmi said.
He added that Meta will also be called in later, as issues involving pedophilia and cases linked to students have been found spreading via WhatsApp and Facebook.
Fahmi stressed that the dialogue with the Inspector-General of Police and Attorney-General’s Chambers is to ensure all social media platforms comply with Malaysian laws, noting that many still fail to treat these issues with due seriousness.
